FROM CLASSROOM TO REAL-WORLD PACKAGING DESIGN 🎓📦

BrandCare recently had the pleasure of welcoming 15 final-year Design & Communication Degree students and 2 lecturers from INTI International College to our office for an immersive industry learning session on Packaging Design, FMCG and the realities of working in the commercial design world.
Over a session of more than 2 hours, BrandCare’s Shawn Ng shared his personal career journey, industry experiences and actual case studies accumulated from years of working with FMCG brands.
More importantly, the students were introduced to something that cannot always be learnt from textbooks — how a commercial designer needs to think.

Good design is not just about creating something beautiful.
It is about understanding the client’s business, consumers’ needs, market competition, brand positioning and ultimately, how design can help a product sell.

Through actual packaging examples and working simulations, Shawn shared practical insights into:
• The importance and role of packaging design
• Understanding consumer insights and buying behaviour
• How the FMCG industry works
• Thinking from a client’s perspective
• Balancing creativity with commercial objectives
• What it takes to become a stronger commercial designer
• What an actual agency working environment is like
And this wasn’t just a sharing session.

The students were given an actual Project Assignment Brief to take back and develop — giving them an opportunity to experience a process closer to a real agency-client project.

In about a month, they will return to present their ideas and creative concepts to Shawn and the BrandCare team, before progressing towards their final project execution later in October 2026.
At BrandCare, we believe industry experience becomes more meaningful when it can be passed on to the next generation.

We look forward to seeing how these young designers turn insight, strategy and creativity into packaging ideas that work in the real world.
Welcome to the world of commercial design. The journey has just begun.
